Want to know more about sprains, strains and broken ankles?

You’ve always heard it is good to be physically active. However, we can all push ourselves too hard from time to time. Whether trying to get in shape or being competitive in an athletic sport, you could injure yourself. An injury in the ankle area needs to be immediately looked at before you injure yourself more severely. You can quickly find yourself immobile if you do not get correctly diagnosed.

We can provide treatment and advice for a range of injuries. With our onsite digital x-ray, we can accurately diagnose your strain, sprain, or broken ankle. No appointment is needed to access our services or be seen by one of our physicians.

How to tell the difference?

It can be very hard to know whether your ankle is sprained, strained, or broken unless you are a medical professional. To give you a better background on these conditions, we’ve listed the main differences between each type of injury.

Sprains

A sprain occurs when you damage ligaments that connect to your bones. A stretch or a tear of a ligament is the most common form of sprains. It becomes quite noticeable when you walk, run, or make any sort of sudden movement. A sprain can be minor, however if size of the tear is large enough, it can be very debilitating. Any strain must be properly treated.

Strain

A strain occurs when you pull a muscle or tendon. These parts of your body help you move your bones and limbs. An injury to this area can be the result of not stretching properly. You should always stretch the muscles you use before you work out or if decide to push yourself during training. While a strain is more likely to happen in the back or hamstring, they can also occur in other areas such as your ankles.

Breaks

The most serious of these three injuries is a broken ankle. This is not something you should take a “wait and see” approach with. You need to be immediately check out by a physician. A break in the ankle is the most painful of these three injuries and can be the most noticeable especially if there is any deformity or bone protrusion. If you feel you have a broken ankle, it needs to receive prompt attention or you could find yourself dealing with expensive long term issues. Our onsite digital x-ray allows our board-certified physicians to quickly diagnose your condition. This powerful diagnostic tool and our doctors are available with no appointment needed. We can, at your request, send copies of x-rays to your regular primary physician.
